Book Review - The Secret

Image
I first got to know about this book at a seminar I attended in my community. I learnt that this book is about the Law of Attraction. But I never felt the urge to read it since. Then, when I got more familiar with terms like "manifesting," "law of attraction," "affirmations," "positivity," "gratitude," etc., I got this book for my next read.  "To use the law of attraction to your advantage, make it a habitual way of being, not just a one-time thing." The book is a motivational, self-help book. It gives readers hope that they have control over their lives through their thoughts and feelings. However, some critics say that the book oversimplifies life’s challenges and makes it seem like positive thinking alone can solve everything, which may not always be realistic. "The more you use the power within you, the more power you will draw through you." This book is all about the Law of Attraction. It tells you to think posit

Small Changes, Big Results: Mastering Atomic Habits

Image
Do you have any habits?  Do you build new habits but keep forgetting them? Do you want to know how to build effective habits and follow them? Well, I struggle too with my habits. Be it breaking bad ones, building new ones, or following it consistently. I got my hands on this popular book; you know which one I am talking about. Atomic Habits by James Clear.  This book is all about habits. But don't worry, it won't bore you. A self-help book that briefly talks about habits forming, breaking bad habits, following new habits, and being motivated to follow them every day with examples. This book explains how to bring about a change in yourself and how to do it without fail. A book in a simple language can be read by anyone. It contains a lot of examples of athletes, top performers, business leaders, and comedians with practical, tried-and-tested. It explains how to create a habit, step by step, and how to break a bad one.  "The holy grail of habit change is not a single 1 perce

Summer in Mumbai

Image
This year too, in the summers, I visited Mumbai at my maternal grandparents house. Well,  visiting in summer brings back the childhood memories of summer holidays during school and how eagerly I waited to pack my bags and enjoy those days.  Bringing all the memories back, this time it was something like that. I can say that I traveled to different parts of Mumbai this time. Every day, it used to be a new place I went to, either for shopping, work or just for fun.  I started my trip by visiting the recently built Coastal Road, and Whoa! It's hard to believe you are traveling across the ocean on a road built by humans. The idea is such (words cannot express how I feel and what I've experienced). I really enjoyed it, and once we got to Marine Drive, we waited long for sandwich ice cream. Like really long because of the amount of crowd over there.  Mom and I met our cousins for lunch, and we went to fine dining. This was my first experience, and the atmosphere was quiet and comfort

Book Review - A Thousand Splendid Suns

Image
The last book I read before my break was A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and What a book is this?  It kept both me and my mom so engrossed in it. Every page I read was so heart touching. PS: You might get teary eyed in some pages. This book's plot takes place in Kabul. Along with the other supporting characters, Mariam and Laila, two ladies, are the major characters. The author presents every detail of their life in a very natural way, going back to their early years, difficulties, how they met, and happy moments.  Not only are the details of these women's lives described with excellent detail, but we also get to see the surrounding area, the streets of Kabul, the restaurants, and how the city had become a war zone. This book portrays multiple expressions of love, including the love between a father and daughter, a girl and a boy, the love between two strangers who eventually developed a priceless bond, and the love between a mother and her daughter. In short, it wi

Riverdale International Residential School

July 2015 was the first time I visited Riverdale for my junior college admission. I still remember it very clearly; it was an on-the-spot decision, and I didn't even search for it on Google. The right turn my cab took to enter the school—what I saw for the next few minutes was out of my imagination. A school on a massive hill. Like, seriously, is that possible? Yes, it is!  As I got out of the cab, I visited the founder's office for my interview, which was more like a discussion. I was still very nervous and wondered what this school looked like after what I saw. The first thing after the school building, I saw the dining hall, a huge hall with chairs and tables on the left, the food counter on the right, and a beautiful view of the Mulshi River surrounded by greenery out of the window. All the hill station feels! Riverdale had a dormitory system. Unity Dorm was my dorm, where junior college girls stayed. I had three roommates. And we had a single bed with a personal cupboard a
