Book Review - A Thousand Splendid Suns

Image
The last book I read before my break was A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and What a book is this?  It kept both me and my mom so engrossed in it. Every page I read was so heart touching. PS: You might get teary eyed in some pages. This book's plot takes place in Kabul. Along with the other supporting characters, Mariam and Laila, two ladies, are the major characters. The author presents every detail of their life in a very natural way, going back to their early years, difficulties, how they met, and happy moments.  Not only are the details of these women's lives described with excellent detail, but we also get to see the surrounding area, the streets of Kabul, the restaurants, and how the city had become a war zone. This book portrays multiple expressions of love, including the love between a father and daughter, a girl and a boy, the love between two strangers who eventually developed a priceless bond, and the love between a mother and her daughter. In short, it w...

Riverdale International Residential School

Image
July 2015 was the first time I visited Riverdale for my junior college admission. I still remember it very clearly; it was an on-the-spot decision, and I didn't even search for it on Google. The right turn my cab took to enter the school—what I saw for the next few minutes was out of my imagination. A school on a massive hill. Like, seriously, is that possible? Yes, it is!  As I got out of the cab, I visited the founder's office for my interview, which was more like a discussion. I was still very nervous and wondered what this school looked like after what I saw. The first thing after the school building, I saw the dining hall, a huge hall with chairs and tables on the left, the food counter on the right, and a beautiful view of the Mulshi River surrounded by greenery out of the window. All the hill station feels! Riverdale had a dormitory system. Unity Dorm was my dorm, where junior college girls stayed. I had three roommates. And we had a single bed with a personal cupboard ...

The Friendship blueprint

Image
The Friendship Blueprint by Karim Padaniya is a book for young children to understand their true self and how to build true and lasting bonds with peers and close ones.  This book is written in a very simple and clear tone with interesting stories and examples. There are self reflective questions for the readers to enjoy the stories and to connect with their own self. Divided into 13chapters, each chapter addresses different topics which are important in the teenage years. A lot of advice on building good habits, managing your time with technology, handling peer pressure and all about your inner self and your passions is also talked in this book by the author. I really enjoyed reading this book and love the self reflection part where spending time with yourself comes into the frame. You can buy this book from:  https://amzn.eu/d/b1RqRoC

How many times has it happened to you that when you really want to take a short trip somewhere, it just does not happen? But sometimes two trips in the same month take place. What a long break, right? The first trip was to Ahmedabad for a professional meeting, where I spent an extra day exploring the city. From exploring the nightlife of the city, having the best tandoori momos, lunch at Chinese restaurant, and having Starbucks for the very first time, it was day out with my best friend.  The second trip was to Mumbai. I was excited for this trip because I was visiting Mumbai after 2 years. It was a 10-day trip that included attending a wedding, shopping, having the best food, and spending time with my family, especially my mom. This time, Mumbai felt different. Every shopping place I visited took me back to the old times when I used to buy so much stuff just to secure the year until I visited again. The roadside seekh paratha and the cake from Warden bakery are to die for. The pam...

BOOK REVIEW - THIS LOVE THAT FEELS RIGHT

Image
"This Love that Feels Right" by Ravinder Singh is a book about Naina, a married woman who is unhappy in her marriage despite having all the materialistic things. She craves what is called love from her husband. Naina meets a guy named Aarav, who is younger than her. They become really good friends and spend a lot of time hanging out. Aarav supports her and is there for her in her difficult times, and as their friendship grows, they fall in love with each other.  This book will take you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions; it celebrates love in small things. It narrates a story of impossible love that comes with a lot of limitations, fear, and tough decisions, but you want to experience it because it comforts you, supports you, and, above all, makes you happy. The title of the book 'This Love that feels right' was what both Naina and Aarav were telling themselves. Both Naina and Aarav are deeply in love with each other, and they know that this love will be impossib...

BOOK REVIEW - THE MOTHER I NEVER KNEW

Image
This book is divided into two parts.  It has two stories, and both stories are about men searching for their biological mother. Venkatesh, a married man living in Bangalore, starts his journey of searching for his mother when he learns about his lookalike. He did not stop there and continued in search of his mother. Mukesh, a married man living with his wife in London, flies down for his father's last rites in Amritsar, where he learns the harsh truth about his adoption. He then searches for his biological mother and uncovers a lot of other secrets on the way. Both of these stories are dramatic, have a lot of suspense, and keep you glued. There is also a supporting role for the main character. Venkatesh has his daughter, with whom he shares everything, and Mukesh has his wife, who supports and understands him during his tough times. The Mother I Never Knew by Sudha Murthy is a smooth, easy read.  It is a beginner-friendly book, and you will enjoy it as it takes you along on th...

BOOK REVIEW - THE ALCHEMIST

Image
I am really late in reading and reviewing this book and I think by now probably a lot of book lovers must have read it and discussed it with the readers. But after days of buying this book and planning to read it and then forgetting about it and then starting to read it all over again, I have finally finished the book. The International bestseller - The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a book about following your dreams. The main character of the book is a shepherd boy named Santiago from Andalusia. The whole story of this book revolves around how the boy follows his heart to fulfill his dreams and solve his problems. Throughout his journey he meets new people who have different opinions but still he does what he feels right.  I liked a few quotes from this book which are: "When you want something, all of the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." which is quite famous, “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” “One is lov...
